UBS HK Open 2007

November 19th, 2007 by Administrator

Managed to squeeze some time and went to the UBS HK Open golf at Fanling this Sat.  It was already my 3rd time going and seems like each year there were more people attending.  As usual, I went to sign up for some free golf lesson and to my surprise I was being interviewed by Sina … and in Mandarin.

Here’s the full article http://sports.sina.com.hk/cgi-bin/news/show_news.cgi?type=golf&date=2007-11-17&id=1367625

Photo: Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, second left, lines up a putt as Sweden's Robert Karlsson, right, looks on from behind on the 18th hole at the Hong Kong Open Golf Tournament Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007.

The event again went to the final hole!  Karlson and Jimenez were in the same last flight and tied as they went to the last hole.  It was so dramatic that Karlson hit a great shot off the tee but fell short in his approach.  He tend hit a poor chip and the ball roll back off the green.  Meanwhile, Jimenez hit his first putt and was 6 feet short.  He missed his 2nd putt and need to 3 putt and end up with a bogey.  Guess that’s all good for the Championship.

Phil Mickelson wins a wild one in China on 2nd hole of 3-way playoff

November 14th, 2007 by Administrator

Phil almost lost it in Shanghai HSBC Championship.  Good to see him winning in Asia.  It’s a pity that Tiger cannot make it this year otherwise it will be interesting to see them playing together in Asia.

Phil Mickelson of the United States, left, examines the hole with his caddy before teeing off at 17th hole during the final round of the 2007 HSBC Champions golf tournament at Shanghai Sheshan International Golf Club Sunday Nov. 11, 2007 in Shanghai, China. Mickelson won the tournament with the score of 10 under.

Weather has been nice in HK and looking forward to go see some action at the UBS HK Open.  Hope the big guns, especially Mike Weir, will do well.

Golf at Yinli

November 4th, 2007 by Administrator

It has been almost 3 months since I last played and I did not even have a chance to go to driving range so felt a bit rusty.

The weather was nice and I went with my golfing buddies Rex, Chris and Heron.  My first 3 holes went pretty bad as expected after a long break from the game but it got better going from hole 4.  Hit 51 for the front nine and then we went into a team game for the back nine.

Other than the par 3 hole 12 which I hit a 7! I did pretty well and managed 3 pars with a total of 46.  It’s been a while since I got under 100 and for the first time, I managed to play with the same ball for the whole 18 holes!

Tiger Woods

June 20th, 2007 by Administrator

So Tiger came up short in 2007 US Open, losing by 1 stroke to Argentina Angel Cabera.   I was watching it live at the 18th hole when Tiger need to make a birdle to force a playoff.  Geez I could hardly breathe.

Just came across a clip on some of his best shots which is nice to watch … over and over again:

4 foot birdle putt miss!

May 29th, 2007 by Administrator

I was trying out this new course at Feng Huang Shan near Dongguan and it was recently opened with 9 holes completed. It was built on hill so very challenging yet interesting.

I used a 5 wood off the tee on this second hole which was a bit uphill. Fairway was not too generous and difficult to recover if I hit either right or left (just ask my playing buddies).

My first shot landed a bit to the right, just inside the fairway with about 100 yards left before the elevated green.

Pulled out a 9 iron and managed to land on the edge of the green with the ball contiuned to roll near the flag. When I got up and see it, I could not be more satisfied:

But yet I missed that birdle putt and need to settle for par. Overall the course was fun to play with and at $480 it was a great bargain!
